WHY IS NOBODY READING YOUR BLOG

Obviously, I want others to read and hopefully give comments on my web logs. The problem is, not much buzz has been generated. It is going to be a week since I posted three BLOG posts and my stats are as below.

First post on Zoho Job Interview prep and experience - 1 view

Second Post on Animaker software experience and my creations - 4 views

Third post on Swift Playgrounds Game experience and initial thoughts - Zero Views.

Now, I am writing about topics which differ vastly.

First post was a Job advice and also a mix up of my interview experience at Zoho.com (Small Office Home Office), Next post was about a drag and drop animation software, and last was Swift Playgrounds- an Apple app store game to learn coding.

Zoho Interview - I have not re-read the post in the last few days. that says something about the content, When I myself do not want or am not inspired to read my content again, how can I expect others to first, read it and more so, enjoy it?. Do I exactly remember what I put together in that post. What was the structure, what was the plot, was there a plot twist? Also the blogging platforms has become so dynamic and diverse in the past 15 years or so, and there is a need for myself to recalibrate with the current direction the blogging wave is going towards. Analyze the trends. Catch the wave, if you want to surf.

Animaker, my experience with it. I also provided some links from my youtube channel which I have created using Animaker software. I got the most response for this post - 4 views. Also, on the twitter - microblogging site, I got liked by the official handle of Animaker software. Now, this is telling me something. People care about animation more than what they do for my interview experience at Zoho. Why is this so? On any given year, how many interviews does an average bloke give. One or two perhaps, (if already in a job), this count might slightly increase if they are in a job hunt mode. Like for example, Someone serving notice period of 90 long days, might give close to three or four interviews in the last two months or so. That's it. Now, what are the odds of someone giving an interview at Zoho will look up on google and land up on my blog post, still more, read it. What value does my content offer.

Coming to the readership itself (target audience)-  It is a subset of people looking for a job, further narrowing down to a subset of those looking into IT companies, and then final subset of those who are looking to work for Zoho.com

The above subset will be a microcosm of the people I am trying to reach. I need to cast my net wider.

So my next and final post was on my experience of trying out the Swift Playgrounds game on App Store, which is a different topic. The Swift UI, is used to develop Apple Software applications. It is a coding language that again a really small subset of a larger group of coders, use. And these people, by default, go to a blog that they already know(The popular ones like StackExchange). What are the chances of someone trying to know about Swift UI on google will be looking for the "Swift Playgrounds" game. Very few coders might be interested. One set of people who will be looking out for this content will be the ones who created it and those that worked on the development of the game. And they might only read the post, if it gets noticed for some criticism or praise. Criticism like, the game sucks, there is laptop heating issue as most people reported on the app store.  Another aspect would be praise or transformation story, like I was a nobody at coding and then I fell in love with the game, finished all stages and now learnt a lot about coding. Also the game is aimed at children, budding developers, beginners at coding etc. My title and content should connect with these people in some way or at least be targeted towards them.

My Swift Playgrounds post was very normal, lacking depth, based on just one day's experience with the game, It was mostly positive, but it could be read as a walkthrough of the first stages. Maybe I could change the title, the current title reads, Easy way to Learn Coding, or Fun way to Learn Coding. ( I actually don't recall my own title) I have to come up with a catchy title which people will remember and then remember me, the author - Jasper Edwin Asir.

Also, one should not be in a rush to post content. It could be like a premature baby. In Tamil it is called as "Kurai Prasavam".

I should use more keywords. For example - Tamil is a great keyword, so many searches are being made on the internet about Tamil content. Like, Tamil Songs, Tamil Movies, Tamil Dance, Tamil Literature, Tamil Stories, Tamil Cooking, Tamil Cartoon, Tamil Police, Tamil Politics, Tamil Comics, Tamil Motors, Tmail Comedy, Tamil Actors, Tamil Actresses, Tamil Exams, Tamil Government, Tamil Fisherman, Tamil Railways, Tamil Jobs, Tamil People. Oh wow, the list just goes on and on. ( To be frank, my spirit came alive when I was prodding on my mind on generating keywords related to Tamil and writing). Yes, there is a huge readership for Tamil related content, Tamil Fitness, Tamil Technical, Tamil School, Tamil College Admission, Tamil Construction, Tamil Road, Tamil ship, any thing suffixed or prefixed with Tamil is a direct aim towards my Tamil People. Is it not?

Having born a Tamil and having lived in Tamil Nadu's various cities, mostly in and around Chennai. My experiences should bring a Chennai perspective, a Tamil flavour, so to speak. This will definitely strike a chord with many of my people and I can develop a readership for my blogs.

Another point is I have to share my blog with friends and family. This I have not done so far. I maintain a very small 'digital footprint', so they say. Once you post something on the internet, they say, "It is always there." This small digital footprint has accorded me immense sense of peace and quietness of mind. However, this strategy is not very effective when it comes to garnering/generating traffic for a newly began blog.

Ok, I started on a very vague reflective note. But I have now been energized. I am rejuvenated and revitalized. Hopefully, there will be more readers for my blogs in the coming days.

Note: In the year 2011, I wrote a diary entry every single day. I was struggling in my life back then, but now I am managing well by God's grace. I have a beautiful wife and now we are looking forward to welcoming our child into this world. I was inspired by that one year of writing and now started blogging every day ten years later in 2021. But just talking about what happened in my life, what I ate, what I wore etc, would be like putting myself under the scanner and loss of privacy. So, although my inspiration to write more often (daily) might be good, but a strategy is under works. It is far too easy to just drop in some names of my family members and create content that people would maybe read. But that would also provide fodder for gossip mongers. So, I try to divulge very little personal information as possible, but few spills here and there are inevitable.

Time taken to write this post: About 30 to 40 minutes.
