Work is NOT worship

'Do Everything for the Lord' vs. 'Work is Worship'

While the phrases "Do everything as if you are doing it for the Lord" and "Work is worship" may seem to converge on the surface, the underlying philosophies are vastly different.

Do everything AS IF DOING for the Lord is rooted in Colossians 3:23,24 where it emphasizes that our work is not an end in itself but a means to honor and serve the Lord who has entrusted us with our tasks. we are reminded to approach our work with the mindset that it is a service to God, not merely a form of worship in itself.

In contrast, the notion of "Work is worship" can sometimes blur the lines, suggesting that the act of working itself holds intrinsic spiritual value. However, true worship is directed toward the Lord, who provides us with the opportunity to work.

Therefore, we should focus on honoring God through our efforts, recognizing that our labor is a reflection of our devotion to Him, rather than an act of worship in isolation.

Work is worship notion may lead to glorification of overwork, promoting a culture where people sacrifice their well-being, personal relationships for productivity. Sacredness is not mere labor, ignoring importance of rest, contemplation and genuine spiritual growth engagement.
